Heliodor

Heliodor is the golden variety of beryl, essentially a yellow emerald.

It is found primarily in Brazil, Namibia, Nigeria and Russia, also lately found in Central Asia.

The name “Heliodor” is from Greek meaning “gift of the sun”, in reference to its golden color.  Heliodor is an unusual gemstone that is difficult to find in jewelry, but gems of exceptionally saturated deep golden color and of a size over 5 carats are highly prized.  The color is, more commonly a light greenish yellow, or a soft pale golden.

Unlike her cousins, emerald and aquamarine, heliodor is usually internally clear, with few flaws or inclusions .
